Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Propulsion Systems is currently seeking a Scientific Software Developing Engineer with experience and/or background in developing engineering and scientific application software. A background and/or education in engineering disciplines such as structural analysis, heat transfer and/or fluid dynamics is desirable. The software engineer will develop software applications that support design and analysis of solid rocket motors, missiles, munitions and aerospace vehicles. The position is in either the Bacchus (Magna) or Promontory, Utah offices.
Description & Responsibilities:
This position is a software developer role working with a team of other engineer developers that develop and maintain internal software for finite element analysis, heat transfer, thermal ablation, chemical fuel analysis, filament winding, fracture mechanics, composite design, and other engineering design and analysis functions used Propulsion Systems and other Northrop Grumman business units spanning Space, Defense and Aeronautics sectors. The position reports to the Science and Engineering organization at Propulsion Systems in Utah.
Job Duties:
Develop engineering software and tools to support the design, analysis and fabrication of solid rocket motors, nozzles, rocket casings, munitions, flares and other aerospace vehicles
Work with other software engineers using Agile Scrum methods to develop and support tools for the engineering staff at Propulsion Systems.
Interact with other Northrop Grumman engineers and scientist to develop requirements, theory, and algorithms for code development.
Develop graphical user interfaces, interactive graphics and simulation tools that support Propulsion System product design, testing and manufacturing .
Experience Requirements:
3 - 9 years of software development
Background and/or experience with mathematical modeling & computer simulation methods such as finite element analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), rocket motor ballistics or heat transfer
Window/Linux/Python scripting & programming knowledge desired
Skills
Programming Languages: C/C++, Python, Azure Dev Ops, C#, Git/GitHub
Strong skills in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel
Knowledge of Windows, Unix/Linux commands & operating systems
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including physical & virtual presentations
Agile Scrum experience desirable
Educational Requirements:
BS degree in Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science with 5 years of experience or 3 with a MS
Position can be filled one level higher, BS and 9 years' experience or MS and 7 years' experience
Salary Range: $90,400 - $135,600
Salary Range 2: $112,000 - $168,000
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
