The Advanced Technologies group of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an independent and resourceful Semiconductor CMP Process Production and Development Engineer for our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) - located just outside of Baltimore, Maryland - where we design, manufacture, and test semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers as well as emerging technology programs.

Northrop Grumman's ATL semiconductor foundry is a unique capability supporting a range of production microelectronic devices (Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, Silicon Carbide) and providing leading edge technology development in superconducting electronics. Our devices enable a number of Northrop Grumman's ground based radars, airborne radars, and space systems. The CMP Process Engineer is responsible for production support, process improvement and development of various CMP processes and Wafer Thinning/Lapping processes at ATL. The individual will interface with multiple research programs to solve complex technical challenges and production needs. The candidate must be capable of working in a fast paced environment while developing solutions to multiple areas including superconducting, Si, Silicon Carbide, Gallium Arsenide, and Gallium Nitride.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Qualifications:

This position may be filled at the Principal CMP Process Engineer or Senior Principal CMP Process Engineer

Basic Qualifications for Principal CMP Process Engineer:

-Bachelor of Science in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a similar discipline with at least 5 years of experience (3 years required with MS or 0 year with PhD) in CMP Process Engineering in a semiconductor environment.

  • Proven track record of production support, and/or process development.

  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control, Continuous Improvement Methodology, Design of Experiments, and Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA).

  • Familiarity with CMP process characterization techniques (AFM, optical spectroscopy, etc.)

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Experience with yield improvement activities using metrology tools such as bright field and dark field inspection tools.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal CMP Process Engineer:

-Bachelor of Science in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a similar discipline with at least 9 years of experience (7 years required with MS or 4 years with PhD) in CMP Process Engineering in a semiconductor environment.

  • Proven track record of production support, and/or process development.

  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control, Continuous Improvement Methodology, Design of Experiments, and Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA).

  • Familiarity with CMP process characterization techniques (AFM, optical spectroscopy, etc.)

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to work in a team environment.

  • Experience with yield improvement activities using metrology tools such as bright field and dark field inspection tools.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters of Science in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering.

  • Previous CMP process development experience and production sustainment support.

  • 5 or more years' experience in wafer fab environment.

  • Experience with AMAT platforms and other CMP tool manufactures.

  • Experience or working knowledge of Lithography, Thin Films Deposition, PVD, Diffusion Processes.

  • Excellent knowledge of clean technologies as applicable to CMP and Lapping/Grind will be highly desired.

  • Experience leading and guiding the fab operation, maintenance and facilities teams

  • Experience in lean manufacturing practices and structured problem-solving methodology

  • Working knowledge of Process Statistical Control (SPC).

  • Experience in risk management using tools like FMEA and setting up of a quality control plan (QCP)

  • Experience developing and evaluating technical specifications for equipment procurement

  • Experience with new equipment installation and qualification

  • Experience in various statistical analysis tools, SPC, DOE Methodology (JMP, Minitab, etc), MES systems - FactoryWorks and

alike systems, etc.

  • Familiar with Grind/Lapping of Si and Compound Materials is desirable.

  • Active Secret clearance
