What You'll Get To Do:

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal or Sr. Principal level Survivability/Electromagnetic Environmental Effects Systems Engineer for NGI to support our newest, defense Program. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL and will support the Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) program.

A Next Generation Interceptor (NGI) is necessary to deliver timely, reliable, and effective defense for the United States in the face of ever evolving and ever increasing threats to our nation. Northrop Grumman is designing, producing, and sustaining the next generation of ballistic missile interceptors as part of the NGI solution.

Northrop Grumman's fully integrated Interceptor program leverages broad Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) expertise and twenty-plus years of operational GMD GBI Homeland Defense experience. Our NGI solution incorporates low risk, next generation technologies and tailors modern practices within traditional execution to incrementally optimize engineering, manufacturing, and mission performance. Your responsibilities Include:

  • Reviewing and tailoring of EMI/EMC requirements to meet specified product performance for all aspects of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) compliance, including EMI/EMC/EME/ESD/EMP and lightning.

  • Developing models for interference coupling mechanisms, shielding integrity, and circuit/cable interface isolation to mitigate and control conducted/radiated emissions and susceptibility stimuli.

  • Performing Electromagnetic Environmental Effects and Survivability site testing including but not limited to test planning, scheduling and test performance in compliance with standards MIL-STD-188-125, MIL-STD-461, and MIL-STD-464

  • Creating test reports, procedures, and control plans and guidelines.

  • Developing, maintaining and delivering a NGI E3 Program Plan

  • Developing and executing the NGI Survivability and Hardness Assurance Program IAW MDA-STD-001A and the NGI High Altitude Exo-Atmospheric Nuclear Survivability (HAENS) Program Plan

  • Providing technical expertise to perform, document, and assess HAENS Raid analysis using the Survivability Planning and Intercept Evaluation Tool

  • Assessing salvo logic impacts and suggest improvements to the existing Nuclear Weapons Effects Battle Management algorithms


Basic Qualifications:

This position may be filled at either a Principal Systems Engineer or Senior Principal Systems Engineer level:

  • Principal Systems Engineer : 5 years' experience with Bachelors; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD; 4 additional years of experience in lieu of a degree

  • Sr. Principal Systems Engineer : 9 years' experience with Bachelors; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD

  • 9 years with Bachelor of Science in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline; 7 Years with Masters; 4 Years with PhD.

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • Current, active Secret security clearance required

  • Familiarity with MIL STD 188-125, MIL STD 461, MIL STD 464

  • DOORS experience

  • Must be able to travel (approximately 10%)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of missile systems or space launch systems engineering experience

  • Nuclear effects (including EMP) modeling experience.

  • LabVIEW CLAD or higher certification

  • SIPRNet experience

  • GMD or other missile defense experience
