Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Human Factors Engineer. This position is located in Huntsville, AL or Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

What You’ll Get To Do:

Northrop Grumman's - Defense Systems Sector is seeking a Human Factors Engineer (HFE) that will be a contributing member of HFE team. This HFE will interpret MIL-STD-1472, integrate with design teams to ensure compliance, coordinate user evaluations as needed, document in the appropriate CDRLs, present directly to the customer, and verify that various Human Machine Interfaces across the weapon system meet all HFE requirements. This position will be a part of the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program (Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) replacement) development contract.

Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for ICBM Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

The selected candidate will be a member of the Human Factors (HF) specialization for software user interfaces (UI) design efforts for the HSI team.

  • They will interact/communicate with the element and product level teams in the technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and supportability/effectiveness analyses for total systems.

  • They will perform Human Factors analyses at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, and test.

  • The HFE ensures requirements allocation and interface definition studies translate to customer requirements for hardware and software HSI specification and could require functional analysis, timeline analysis, and detail trade studies.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Job Qualifications:

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

Human Factors Engineer

  • Educational background in psychology, human factors, mechanical engineering, or HCI related field from an accredited university, and at least 2 Years with Bachelors in Science; 0 Years with Masters. An additional 4 years of experience can be considered ‘in lieu’ of a degree.

Principal Human Factors Engineer

  • Educational background in psychology, human factors, mechanical engineering, or HCI related field from an accredited university, and at least 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD. An additional 4 years of experience can be considered ‘in lieu’ of a degree.

Required for both levels:

  • Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application with an investigation completed within the last 6 years

  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need

  • Experience in Human Factors Engineering/Human Systems Integration with an emphasis on Human Machine Interface (HMI) design and evaluation.

  • Detailed knowledge of MIL-STD-1472 and its application

  • Experience in fast-paced work environment and ability to work in a team environment

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to segment, program and customer community

  • Ability to solve problems, analyze test results, drive tasks to completion

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance or higher with an investigation date within the last 6 years

  • Experience with visual design of computer user interfaces

  • Experience conducting anthropometric evaluations

  • Familiarity with human modeling and simulation in NX/Jack, IMPRINT

  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

  • Experience on an Agile Software Development Team

Salary Range: $75,300 - $112,900

Salary Range 2: $92,600 - $139,000

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
