Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space Systems Division, is seeking a highly qualified Hardware Engineer / Principal Hardware Engineer to become a member of the Ground Terminal Department, specifically the SBIRS team. The selected candidate will be part of a motivated, diverse, and technically talented group located at a field site in Harrogate, UK.

This role requires a two (2) year commitment and the ability to successfully pass a psychological exam. Ability to work odd and/or extended hours covering a 24/7 period and periodic rotating 12-hour shifts.

A comprehensive overseas compensation package is offered with this position including relocation assistance.

The selected candidate will be required to:

  • Know basic communication theory and be familiar with digital and analog modulation/demodulation techniques

  • Perform system, subsystem, unit and board-level troubleshooting and repair

  • Develop and modify procedures for alignment

  • Respond to system and subsystem anomalies as required

  • Explain root cause and fault resolution to a technical and non-technical audience

  • Have experience using oscilloscopes, BER testers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, volt meters and other equipment used for testing digital communication systems

  • Understand AC & DC electronic theory as well as various communication protocols such as RS232, RS422, GPIB, etc.

  • Have experience with basic communication theory, digital and analog modulation/demodulation techniques, testing and troubleshooting systems that use such techniques

  • Proven leadership experience on a project and/or team ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance, SCI access and complete a counterintelligence polygraph examination prior to start date

Basic Qualifications for a level 2:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline plus 2 years of technical/engineering experience OR Master of Science Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline plus 0 years of technical/engineering experience OR 6 years of related experience in lieu of degree

  • Strong technical communications skills including technical documentation and proven ability to work as a member of a diverse team

  • Experience with the repair, configuration, troubleshooting and operations of network devices, computer systems (Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems) or SATCOM equipment

  • Willingness to complete a two-year overseas tour commitment

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance, SCI access and pass a counterintelligence polygraph examination prior to start date

Basic Qualifications for a level 3:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline plus 5 years of technical/engineering experience OR Master of Science Degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline plus 3 years of technical/engineering experience OR 9 years of related experience in lieu of degree

  • Strong technical communications skills including technical documentation and proven ability to work as a member of a diverse team

  • Experience with the repair, configuration, troubleshooting and operations of network devices, computer systems (Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems) or SATCOM equipment

  • Willingness to complete a two-year overseas tour commitment

  • Ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance, SCI access and pass a counterintelligence polygraph examination prior to start date

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance / SCI Access with a counterintelligence (CI) polygraph examination adjudicated within the last five years

  • Previous experience supporting operations, maintenance, or I&T of digital electronics, RF communication, or SATCOM systems in the field to support the Department of Defense and/or the Intelligence Community is highly desirable; experience in military setting is a plus

  • Previous hands-on experience in circuit repair/testing, and familiarity with using lab repair and test equipment

  • Experience with various communication and network protocols such as RS-232, RS-422, GPIB

  • Previous COMSEC experience

Salary Range: $73,900 - $110,900

Salary Range 2: $91,200 - $136,800

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
