We are Northrop Grumman Australia. Part of an 85,000 strong global Defence organisation, over 800 talented employees in Australia are leveraging our global resources to deliver a superior Australian Defence capability. As we build our business and our capabilities, we are also building a reputation as a great place to work. Help us define what is possible for our nation, and for your career.

This is an exciting time to join our expanding team spearheading the design, supply, installation and commissioning of our cutting-edge Deep Space Advanced Radar Capability (DARC) facility, strategically located near the picturesque town of Exmouth, Western Australia.

DARC is a global network of three next-generation ground sensors, based in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Together, they will deliver a unique 24/7 all-weather capability, tracking objects in geosynchronous orbit - a testament to Northrop Grumman’s commitment to enhancing security and safety in deep space on a global scale.

Your Role

As a Hardware Integration Engineer at Northrop Grumman, you will play a pivotal role in the delivery of the Deep Space Advanced Radar (DARC) capability. This involves the integration of sophisticated radar systems and mission support equipment. In this dynamic position, you will assist the on-site Northrop Grumman Hardware Integration team and their suppliers, focusing on enabling the safe, quality, and timely integration of the DARC radar and mission system equipment.

Your duties extend to performing initial Antenna Assembly and Integration, conducting Initial System Integration and Check Out (SI&CO) testing, and attending site meetings to support execution planning, risk mitigation development, and issue resolution. You will also ensure that safety, schedule, and quality-related risks and issues are reported to the Hardware Lead and the NGADARC programme manager and maintain awareness of the System Safety Programme or Management plans, Hazard Log, and any mitigation actions that impact Hardware Integration, alerting the Hardware Lead as applicable.

Collaboration is key in this role as you will work closely with the US-based team and other delivery team members who operate remotely. Your expertise in engineering principles, physical hardware assembly, and complex mechanical/electrical systems will be crucial in driving the success of our projects.

About You

With a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, ideally enhanced by mechanical and/or electrical trade qualifications, your background should include experience in the construction and commissioning of communications infrastructure. The ability to work effectively within a small team, innovative problem-solving skills, and a keen ability to identify and mitigate risks will be essential. Your role will involve intricate communications with project stakeholders across Australia and the United States, ensuring the seamless integration of hardware with a high level of technical assurance and quality.

Experience in SATCOM ground station or large RADAR system installation and maintenance will distinguish you as a highly desirable candidate.

At Northrop Grumman, you are not just taking a job; you are becoming part of a landmark project, defining a new frontier in aerospace and committing to the highest standards of safety, quality, and technical excellence.
