Northrop Grumman is currently seeking an Engineering Test Technician level 2 or 3 - Mechanic al for our Elkton, Maryland location.

The Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

Job Summary:

This position works closely with Engineering to configure and execute testing operations primarily in regards to the set-up, operation, and maintenance of specialized test equipment. This position will require working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions. Occasionally, some after hours and weekend support will be needed. Operations will include working with energetic materials including explosives, propellants, high/low pressure gas systems, high voltage, and cryogenics.

  • Provide s mechanical technical support to engineers

  • Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data

  • Constructs, calibrates, adjusts and maintains equipment, components, devices or systems.

  • Works from schematics, engineering drawings and technical instructions.

  • Sets up and operat es test equipment, systems, test articles, and software

  • Perform tests/experiments and records data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis

  • Reports data in prescribed format

  • Documents setup and test results

  • Assists with other testing activities as needed

This requisition may be filled at either an Engineering Technician 2 or Engineering Technician 3 based upon demonstrated education, experience, and skills.

Basic Requirements Engineering Test Technician 2

  • High School Diploma

  • 2-4 years overall work experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Must be able to work modified shifts, overtime and weekends, if needed, and have some flexible working hours to staff production needs.

  • Ability to acquire a Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite

  • Ability to obtain forklift certification.

  • Experience in operating mechanical systems

Basic Requirements Engineering Test Technician 3

  • High School Diploma

  • 4-6 years overall work experience within a manufacturing environment.

  • Must be able to work modified shifts, overtime and weekends, if needed, and have some flexible working hours to staff production needs.

  • Ability to acquire a Security Clearance which requires US Citizenship as a pre-requisite

  • Ability to obtain forklift certification.

  • Experience in operating mechanical systems

  • Experience in installation of test equipment

Preferred Requirements:

  • Defense Industry experience

  • Computer knowledge in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word

  • Familiar with Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles

  • Experience with the application and use of various test instrumentation .

  • Experience working around hazards including explosives.

This position falls under a Federal Explosives License issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for this location. Candidates hired into this role will be required to complete and submit an Employee Possessor Questionnaire to ATF for approval to be a possessor.

Salary Range: $49,400 - $82,400

Salary Range 2: $58,800 - $98,000

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
