This position will be located at Northrop Grumman's South Bay Aircraft Design Center of Excellence (CoE) in El Segundo, CA.
You'll be joining the Vehicle Integration (VI) organization. The VI organization provides innovative research, technology development and engineering for aircraft advanced design, including mechanical design and mechanisms, thermal systems, environment control systems, secondary power systems, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, fire protection systems and electrical systems.
The selected candidate will apply electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including assembly, analysis, and documentation of results; construction of developmental assemblies, sub-assemblies and components; and quality testing. Supports and participates in the design, test, modification, fabrication and/or assembly of prototype electromechanical systems. Position will require travel approximately 10%.
Primary role is to serve as the Weapons Integration Lead on the Future Carrier Aviation (FCA) program and coordinate directly with the customer on a regular and frequent basis to define a successful strategy to provide the United States Navy with a weapons employment system that delivers weapon types/quantities to meet program requirements and satisfy customer key performance parameters.
Responsible for managing overall Weapons Integration Integrated Product Team (IPT) cost, schedule, and Earned Value Management System (EVMS) performance, providing weekly status reports to management, and completing annual comprehensive estimate at complete (CEAC) evaluations of work performed to date and remaining/additional work, including impacts to future cost and schedule.
Participate in internal program, customer and supplier technical exchange meetings and formal program milestone reviews to provide and/or obtain progress status updates.
Provide technical guidance to, and coordinate with, multiple engineering design teams, including the Stores Management System (SMS) weapon functional/electrical interface team, the mechanical weapon physical interface team, the aerodynamic/store separation team, and supplier management teams supporting the preliminary design, development and integration of weapons onto the FCA platform.
The SMS team will develop the aircraft-to-weapon/S&RE functional interface architecture, including requirements definition (software, hardware, lab test/verification), simulation modeling, and documentation.
The mechanical design team will develop the aircraft-to-weapon/S&RE physical interface and modeling, including weapon/S&RE aircraft structural hard point locations, attachment hardware design, weapon virtual and physical fit check analysis, weapon loading assessments, ground crew maintainer access evaluations, and documentation.
The aerodynamic store separation team will virtually simulate weapon types and weapon load-out configuration, analyze aircraft conditions for weapon release and analyze weapon release trajectories to determine safe store separation parameters, as well as to physically simulate select weapon load-out configurations via small scale wind tunnel model testing to verify/validate analytical models and identify correlation factors to improve accuracy of simulated predictions.
The supplier management team will manage suppliers for weapons, S&RE and other related line replaceable unit (LRU) hardware, as well as help define and manage proprietary information agreements (PIAs) and subcontracts to obtain the supplier data and equipment necessary to support weapon integration assessments, analyses, simulations and test evaluations.
The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.
