Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems sector is seeking an Actuation Subsystems Engineer - 5 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will lead a growing statement of work within the Actuation Subsystems Engineering Team in El Segundo, CA.

The Actuation Subsystems Engineer position provides leadership to actuation systems & mechanism design initiatives with primary responsibility for technical, cost account, and schedule management of a subsystem team executing requirements development, conceptualization and layout, design trade-off, conducting feasibility studies and proposals, formulating models for new/modified designs, evaluating complex aspects of mechanism design and integration, detail design and analysis of mechanical subsystems, and representing the engineering organization in providing solutions to difficult technical challenges associated with actuator and mechanism products. Strong leadership is critical to this role as all subsystems have very high leverage to program critical path and Aircraft integration and test schedules. Candidate will also be responsible for actuation subsystem coordination across all IPT's, the customer technical integration team, Program Management, and Sector Leadership. This role will require support to suppliers and external partners for technology and business development, proposals, design reviews, and procurement activities, as required.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, organized, independently directed with good problem solving skills and will possess strong communication, leadership, and team building skills.

Basic Qualifications:

-Bachelor's degree from accredited institution

  • 15 years professional engineering experience.

  • Direct, relevant technical experience in mechanisms and/or actuation systems disciplines.

  • Prior technical and supplier management experience with a track record as a member of a team responsible for integrating air vehicle systems within schedule, labor and material cost requirements.

  • An active in-scope DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain program access

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 20 years professional engineering experience.

  • Master of Science Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.

  • Experience with the design, development, and implementation of aerospace mechanical systems, actuators, and mechanisms as well as a working knowledge of complex mechanical subsystems and integration of subsystems hardware into Vehicle Systems is preferred.

  • Experience with industry standard design tools and processes including NX CAD, CATIA V5, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) is advantageous.
