Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an exciting career opportunity for a Materials and Process Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. The team provides materials and process laboratory testing services to support active programs and develop new technologies for next generation programs. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.

We are seeking a motivated candidate to lead the Coatings Application area within the Materials Development and Fabrication Laboratories as a Principal Test Engineer . The qualified applicant will be proficient with hands-on application techniques and best practices for a diverse set of coatings, including common industry coatings and advanced coatings. As the lead, the selected candidate will work with customers to identify objectives, risks, and deliverables for incoming work orders and will work with the team to deliver results on-time and on-budget. As such, the candidate must have experience interpreting process specifications, work instructions and engineering drawings to understand and meet customer expectations. The selected candidate will work with other resources across the department and organization as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) and 5 years of related Engineering experience or 9 years of relevant professional experience in coatings application in lieu of degree, or a Master's in STEM and 3 years of related Engineering experience.

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with coatings applications.

  • Experience programming and operating environmental conditioning controllers and equipment.

  • Experience with reading and interpreting engineering drawings and test specifications.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance or higher.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in project estimation and scheduling of engineering activities.

  • Aerospace & Defense Industry experience with an active DoD Secret or Top Secret clearance.

Salary Range: $97,500 - $146,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
