Program Manager 1

Adaptive Optics Associates Xinetics (AOX), a wholly-owned Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS) Business Venture, is currently seeking a Program Manager 1 to support Special Program activities in E. Hartford CT.

AOA-Xinetics designs, develops, and manufactures precision, advanced optical products and systems such as deformable mirrors, optical systems, adaptive optics control systems and silicon carbide optical structures for the U.S. Government, commercial customers, and U.S. defense prime and second-tier contractors. Markets for these technologies include civilian astronomy and semiconductor capital equipment as well as defense ISR and Directed Energy. Several potential direct and adjacent application areas also exist. The Company has substantial growth opportunities in support of many U.S. Government and NGAS business initiatives.

AOX delivers industrial photonics systems and development services for a variety of customers and applications. AOX excels in a range of applications from adaptive optical systems, deformable mirrors, wavefront sensors, precision actuators, to photonic systems that acquire and process data in real time for a variety of high availability applications. AOX's capabilities include lightweight passive and active hybrid CERAFORM silicon carbide optics and precision structures as well as large and small precision opto-mechanical systems supporting electronics and sophisticated controls software.

Position Description:

  • Directs all phases of assigned programs from inception through completion.

  • Responsible for the cost, schedule and technical performance of company programs or subsystems of major programs.

  • Coordinates the preparation of proposals, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract.

  • Acts as primary customer contact for program activities, leading program review sessions with customer to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance.

  • Establishes design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product research, development, integration and test.

  • Establishes milestones and monitors adherence to master plans and schedules, identifies program problems.

  • Works with other PMs to coordinate staffing across programs based on program priorities set by the Business Area Manager.

  • Directs the work of employees assigned to the program from technical, manufacturing and administrative areas.

  • Controls expenditures within limitation of project budget.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline

  • 1 to 3 years of experience in Program or Project Management; Defense/Government contract experience a huge plus, not required

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills

  • Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning skills and the ability to apply them to solve issues and predict potential programmatic and technical risks

  • Conducts business with impeccable ethics; leads by example and fosters ethical behavior at all times

  • Operate independently with limited supervision and feedback, and the ability to establish a solid working relationship with technical staff, peers, and customers in the business area

  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret security clearance

  • U.S. Citizenship is a bona fide requirement for employment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in STEM discipline

  • Experience in optical systems integration

  • Experience with Defense/Government contracts

  • 5+ years of experience as a Program or Project Manager

  • An Active TS/SCI Clearance

Working Environment & Physical Demands

  • Position is located at AOX E. Hartford CT

  • Some travel may be required up to 10% domestic and/or international

  • Ability to handle very fragile, very expensive objects without damaging them

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time and light physical effort required
