We have an opening for a Software Engineer Lead to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Tactical Space organization. This position will be located in Dulles, VA.

Description :

The Ground Software Lead will be responsible for providing technical and operational support to multiple program software development scrum teams, the Ground Segment Simulation Environment Team, as well as the Release Management Team/Software Quality Assurance Team. You will have responsibility for program activities related to software development, simulation, testing, software quality, configuration management, and delivery of related technical requirements as it relates to contractual cost, schedule, and performance commitments. The position requires a high degree of collaboration skills with the ability to provide insight into the status of multiple efforts at various levels of leadership within Northrop Grumman and with customer(s).

Responsibilities :

  • Provide overall leadership and direction to the sub leaders and team members (15-20). Includes coaching team members, resolving conflict, and optimizing team level performance

  • Coordinate/interface across program to define, develop and test the Ground Software

  • Measure and report program performance through development and adherence to budget baselines utilizing Earned Value Management (EVM)

  • Development and adherence to master plans and schedules

  • Integrated program demand planning (staffing, clearances, etc.)

  • Manage risk, issues, and opportunity processes. Identify potential risks and opportunities that could impact program performance and take proactive action to resolve issues regarding cost and schedule

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customer counterparts

  • Communicate effectively and clearly present technical approaches and findings at technical and program reviews and boards

  • Deliver presentations to customers, executive management, and other program stakeholders

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of Ground system processes and procedures

You will work in a dynamic team environment, ensuring personnel follow well-defined processes. You must have the ability to complete tasks with minimal direction and oversight, and mentor junior engineers. To be successful, you must have excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.

Basic Qualifications :

Sr. Principal Engineer

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance with prior SCI/SCI eligibility

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 9 years of relevant work experience; Master's Degree in STEM with 7 years of relevant work experience; PhD in STEM with 4 years of relevant work experience; experience can be considered in lieu of a degree

  • Experience leading a team of software/quality engineers in software development deliverables and processes

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience working with internal and external customers

  • Previous software experience in a Python/C++/Red Hat Enterprise Linux environment

  • Experience with ground software design, code, and configuration management

  • 5+ years of previous management experience as a Technical Lead is a plus

  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills

  • Cost Account Management experience

  • Subcontract management experience

  • Understanding of DevOps ideas and principals

  • Agile SW development methodology

Salary Range: $129,700 - $194,500

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
