Northrop Grumman Spacecraft Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer 3 or 4 in Dulles, Virginia

Northrop Grumman Technology Services sector is seeking a Spacecraft Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer 3 or 4 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Dulles, VA. The selected candidate will join a high performing engineering team supporting mission critical systems, and is expected to apply best engineering principals and methodologies to research, design, develop, and or modify systems. The Spacecraft GNC Engineer is responsible for contributing to the design, analysis, and testing of the GNC subsystem for the space vehicle. The Spacecraft GNC Engineer will work within the GNC subsystem team and under the supervision of the GNC subsystem lead. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Design, analyze, and tune spacecraft attitude and position control loops using time and frequency domain techniques

Design, analyze, and tune sequential filters (e.g. Kalman filters) for attitude determination and relative navigation

Analyze and test the spacecraft GNC subsystem performance using simulations and other analytic tools

Implement GNC algorithms in flight software and support flight software qualification testing

Perform analysis to support early design phase concept development including actuator sizing and placement, sensor selection and placement, and predicted performance assessments

Develop simulation models for sensors (e.g. star tracker, rate gyro, accelerometer, GPS, magnetometer, sun sensors), actuators (e.g. reaction wheel, torque bar, thruster, CMG), system dynamics (e.g. rigid body, multi-body, orbit mechanics, flexible models), and the space environment (e.g. atmospheric, solar radiation pressure, third-body gravity, geo-potential)

Apply engineering principles, industry standards, company process, and knowledge of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, classical/modern control, and estimation theory to perform tasks to advanced program/project goals

Document designs, analysis, and test results and create presentation materials

Present designs, analysis, and test results to internal and external customers

Work well within small- to medium-sized groups

Basic Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either a level 3 or a level 4. BQs for the Engineer 3 are a Bachelor's Degree in STEM and 5 years' experience. BQs for the Engineer 4 are a Bachelor's Degree in STEM and 9 years' experience. To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

Active Top Secret Clearance

Aerospace Background

Experience in spacecraft GNC subsystem design, analysis, and testing

Experience with implementing GNC algorithms on embedded systems

Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, and hand code C and C+ Experience with Stability Analysis and Common Filtering

Strong verbal and written communications skills

Strong interpersonal skills

Strong analytical skills

Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance

MS or PhD degree in engineering, physics, or math
