This Systems Engineer role is located in Dulles, VA, supporting our National Security Space Systems (NSS) programs that include technical roles at the mission, segment, and component levels. They span the entire program life cycle from early concept studies, design development, system integration/test, launch and early operations, mission operations/sustainment, and system disposal. Programs range from small feasibility studies to medium-sized on-orbit technology demonstrations and large-scale national systems.
Systems engineers perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. This particular role will focus on risk management for a product line of NSS satellites with other systems engineering tasks, as assigned.
Risk Management Responsibilities:
Evaluating and approving risk and opportunity handling approaches
Creating mitigation plans and approving opportunity exploitation plans
Coordinating with suppliers, vendors, higher level managers, and external Customers
Assuring integration of the Earned Value Management System (EVMS) process with the risk and opportunity management process
The campus, located minutes from the Dulles airport, is the headquarters of NG's Space Systems Sector. The campus consists of seven buildings, with three bordering a green courtyard. Building 1 includes a cafeteria and a small gym for employee use. Across a street is a Satellite Manufacturing Facility for integration and test of spacecraft, including environmental test chambers for TVAC, EMI/EMC, and Dynamics testing. Each building has adequate, adjacent parking. Along one side of the campus runs the Washington & Old Domonion Trail, which is popular for biking and running and can be used to bike to work.
Systems engineering experience
Must have U.S. citizenship with active or current Top Secret level clearance
Bachelor's degree in STEM or related discipline +5 years of experience or a Master's degree in STEM or related discipline +3 years of experience
This position may be hired at a higher level with a Bachelor's degree in STEM or related discipline +9 years of experience or a Master's degree in STEM or related discipline +7 years of experience
Current or active SCI
Experience with a space development program
Experience presenting to customers
Experience working with a cross-discipline team
Demonstrated experience or education in risk and opportunity management
Previous CAM or project mangement experience
Desired experience includes one or more of the following: mission system requirements, verification/validation planning, mission planning/execution, mission analysis, modeling/simulation, system trade studies, and expertise with various engineering tools such as MATLAB, STK, etc.
