Northrop Grumman's Space Systems - Propulsion Division is currently seeking a Structural Engineer/Principal Structural Engineer in our Loads and Environments team at our Promontory, UT offices.
Role description & Responsibilities:
The Structural Engineer is responsible for the development and communication of structural loads and environments to support launch vehicle design and testing:
Generation of structural loads for launch vehicles
Generation of loads and environments (shock, vibration and acoustics) for use by system/component designers and analysts
Develop dynamic structural models for system/component assessment
Develop shock and vibration structural environments
Support testing of components to structural environments (vibration, shock)
Analyze sub-scale, static-test and flight data to assess loads and environments and verify dynamic models
Prepare reports and memos documenting analysis activities and results
Prepare presentations summarizing analysis results for internal review boards and external customers
Interact with design and development teams (teams include specialists in Design, Quality, Safety, Structural, Thermal, Fluid, Materials, Test, Operations) to certify creative design solutions that meet all requirements (technical, cost, schedule)
Skills & Qualifications:
Good presentation and writing/communication skills.
Self-motivated, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment.
Experience in developing and delivering presentations and leading small groups.
Experience in working in an autonomous work environment on complex projects.
Experience in working on engineering full life-cycle projects from project inception through launch.
Strong, proactive analytical problem-solving skills and ability to deal with ambiguity
Ability to work in a fast paced dynamic environment as part of a multi-discipline team• Excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Assertive and proactive approach for collaboration and team work

Experience Requirements:
Candidate must have a MS or PhD in Structural, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering
Course work in Vibrations or System Dynamics
Experience Preferred:
Previous internship/co-op or other work experience, leadership and teamwork capabilities, interpersonal communication skills, and activities (professional/community/extracurricular).
Knowledgeable in loads generation, structural dynamics (shock, vibration and acoustics) and data (time-series) analysis.
Computer skills including MATLAB and NASTRAN.
Education/Certifications
MS and 0 years of experience in Structural, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering required
Position can be filled one level higher, MS and 3 years experience or PhD and 0 year experience
Salary Range: $70,528 - $105,792
Salary Range 2: $87,400 - $131,100
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
