Northrop Grumman is seeking an Systems Engineer to help support a program located in Colorado Springs, CO.

The Systems Engineer will work in an engineering team providing life cycle engineering support to projects on the SENSOR program. Roles and responsibilities include support to requirements engineering, architecture design and analysis, modeling, system interface analysis, system performance analysis, system integration, and formal testing of radar, optical and command and control systems. The engineer will support modeling, prototyping and analysis of potential system sustainment improvements prior to their implementation. System performance characterizations under both test and live environments, and problem analysis using formal root cause analysis techniques. The engineer will participate in formal milestone briefings and informal technical interchanges with the customer, and work with project/product team to accomplish successful product delivery.

The engineer will assist in developing system documentation to include functional and performance specifications, interface specifications and architecture design documentation, system and subsystem design documentation, and engineering analysis reports, trade studies and other technical documentation necessary for continued system operations and sustainment.

The engineer will provide technical support to a systems engineering led formal system integration process in the lifecycle. The systems engineer will participate in the development of the project system integration plan, and execution of the system integration process to establish the technical maturity and readiness of the system to enter formal testing.

The systems engineer will participate in on-site support of installation, test and customer acceptance of operational systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Support requirements development and functional allocation to hardware, software, operator and other segments and components of the system.

  • Participate in system requirements reviews and create and/or update requirement specifications and technical documentation.

  • Review system engineering documentation to ensure specifications meet system needs and are accurate, comprehensive, consistent and complete.

  • Perform system modeling using MBSE tools and techniques to define system interfaces, requirements and behaviors and provide support to system design

  • Participate in the development of trade studies to support the selection preferred design solutions, commercial hardware or software components, and preferred course of action alternatives in project development/product delivery

  • Support the development of system integration plans, procedures and scenarios used in the conduct of software/hardware system integration testing, and perform analysis support of integration results to assess system impacts.

  • Provide review and analysis support to the test team development and conduct of formal testing.

  • Participate in engineering peer reviews as a document originator or reviewer to ensure technical quality and engineering rigor is appropriate.

  • Participate in project technical risk analysis and mitigation

  • Assist in planning and conduct of site operator and maintainer training

  • Occasional travel will be required to sensor sites to support installation and checkout at customer sites (including OCONUS)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Active Secret clearance

  • For a level 2, a Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technical, Engineering or Math) with at least 2 years of related experience, or 0 years with a Masters degree

  • For a level 3, a Bachelors degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technical, Engineering or Math) with at least 5 years of related experience, or 3 years with a Masters degree

  • Familiarity with MBSE/SysML (MagicDraw/Rhapsody) modeling

  • Familiarity with Agile S/W development methodology

  • User work experience with DOORS requirements database

  • Moderate software development skills using C and/or Visual Basic (VBA

  • Familiarity with the project systems engineering lifecycle.

  • Familiarity with software development languages and scripting

  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A plus if the candidate has Velocity Template Language (VTL)

  • System performance modeling using Python, MatLAB, or similar tools

  • Flexibility to travel for customer purposes

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced, team oriented environment

  • Self-starter - efficient in achieving goals and proactive in pursuing subsequent tasks

  • Familiarity with MS Office suite of tools (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
