Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer – RA to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located at Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives.
C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.
Essential Functions:
This position is for a Principal Software Engineer on the C2BMC program
The candidate will be responsible for software development in the Java language
Responsible for performing in-depth analysis and technical support of systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support
Maintains, debugs and configures related software products. Works from specifications to develop or modify operating systems applications
Assists with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging and documentation of programs
Interfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, setting standards and improving overall efficiency of the operating system
Designs, codes, tests and implements tools for operations automation.
Works on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require instruction and guidance
Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or a PhD and 1 year of relevant experience, or 9 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start; with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) security clearance.
Linux Experience
DoD 8140 certification at IAT - Level II or higher (Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA) is required
Software engineering and software development with Java/JEE experience
The candidate will have experience and knowledge of basic software practices such as coding standards and configuration management
Experience developing enterprise applications in Java on Linux
Familiarity with Java foundation classes and toolkits
Knowledge of server side/database development and computer system administration - Experience working as part of an Agile team
Use of common software development and management tools such as git, Nexus, JIRA, Confluence, maven or Gradle and Eclipse
Understanding of standard system engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams
Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs
Preferred Qualifications:
Command and control system application development
Automated test and pipeline development experience desired
Test driven development desired
Experience developing software for Unix/Linux and Windows platforms
Experience with Software Integration testing including developing automated test
Experience with Risk Management Framework/STIG/Fortify/SonarQube mitigation - Experience with performance modeling
Experience with microservices
Experience with DevSecOps and/or build management
Designing and building Graphical User Interfaces
Salary Range: $100,300 - $150,500
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
