Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Sr. Staff Tooling Engineer to join our team of diverse professionals. This position will be located in Clearfield, UT .

The Sr. Staff Tooling Engineer will report to a Tooling Engineering Manager and will:

  • Drive daily operational tasks for the department, implementing and maintaining operational excellence.

  • Help manage the department risks, issues, opportunities, and actions.

  • Be responsible for supporting ongoing proposals and managing department initiatives.

  • Support and mentor a team of engineers who design industrial machinery and equipment, tools, dies, gauges, jigs, fixtures, and machine attachments required for production or experimental use.

  • Apply creativity and vision for the future that requires synthesis of related disciplines.

  • Provide teams with internal and external knowledge of the technical industry and how it impacts the company.

  • Serve as an expert for a significant technical area within the team.

  • Demonstrate problem solving mastery of scientific theory and/or considerable innovation in identifying alternative approaches to problems.

  • Regularly take a leadership role in providing insight and knowledge transfer to others on internal and external technical solutions to solve complex problems.

  • Have discretion/latitude to serve as an authority on engineering principles and broad technical areas.

  • Present technical solutions to senior leadership.

  • Be known as an influencer of change.

  • Provide impact as a technical leader, director and mentor to other technical employees in the application of engineering and scientific principles, tools and techniques to achieve practical end results.

  • Develop advanced technological ideas and guide their development into a final product that has a direct impact on the sector.

  • Contribute to priority initiatives critical to achievement of AOP and LRSP objectives.

  • Serve as organization spokesperson on multiple advanced projects and/or programs that have a direct impact on the sector (both technical and non-technical).

  • Act as an advisor to management, co-workers and customers on advanced technical research studies and applications.

  • Maintain critical external customer contact to understand and support their technical needs.

Operational tasks include responding to requests for information, metrics, trainings, estimations, impacts, and other interdisciplinary support. The Sr. Staff Tooling Engineer will assist department managers in the development and implementation of departmental vision and strategies to drive employee engagement, development, training and retain talent.

The Sr. Staff Tooling Engineer will also support department managers in working with programs to drive affordability, first time quality and cost competitiveness for all department related artifacts and indirect activities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution and minimum of 12 years of engineering experience in an aerospace environment OR a Master of Science in a STEM field from an accredited institution and a minimum of 10 years of engineering experience or a PhD in a STEM field from an accredited institution and a minimum of 9 years of engineering experience in an aerospace environment.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in tool design, fabrication and integration activities.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a large tooling project from concept to completion.

  • A current DoD Secret level security clearance, a periodic reinvestigation, or an original adjudication date completed within the last 5 years or continuous evaluation.

  • Ability to obtain SAP access.

  • Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD Degree in Engineering or Management.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute projects to deadlines.

  • Knowledge of AS manufacturing processes, procedures and work instructions required to support both management and engineering tooling task execution.

  • Minimum of 7 years experience with composites manufacturing in the aerospace industry

  • Experience in Defense & Aerospace industry.

  • Green or Black Belt Lean / Six Sigma training and experience.

  • Top Secret level security clearance, a periodic reinvestigation, or an original adjudication date completed within the last 5 years or continuous evaluation.

  • Program access to one or more NGAS programs of record.

Salary Range: $143,800 - $215,600

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
