Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems - Aerospace Structures Division - Clearfield, UT has a current opening for an Associate Engineering Technician 2 nd Shift (Must have current and active secret clearance to be considered)

Second Shift Position. Provides engineering floor support in production of hand layup, secondary bonding, autoclave cure, machining, and assembly processes. Works closely with the cognizant manufacturing engineers to implement process improvements and address production issues.

  • Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks.

  • Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes.

  • Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).

  • Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data.

  • Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports.

  • May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

R esponsibilities

  • Position is on the ACS Manufacturing Engineering team

  • Provide manufacturing floor support to address issues that may arise during the production of composite parts

  • Position supports Operations during the night shift

  • Author and revise procedures and GOP's as requested (EWI and paper)

  • Work closely with the cognizant ME to implement process improvements

  • Participate in Process Owner Reviews (PORs) for upcoming part builds

  • Participate in and support failure investigations

  • Assist in identifying and implementing Corrective Actions

  • Support MRB repair processes as necessary



  • Position is on the second shift

  • Active Secret DoD Clearance within 5 ½ years of last investigation

  • High School Graduate and 2 years of related technician/production support experience

  • Highly motivated self-starter, adaptable, takes ownership & initiative to get the job done correctly

  • Must have above average communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience in composite process technologies such as:

  • TC weld and verification / vacuum port assembly / vacuum port leak check

  • Solid lamination / bagging / oven and autoclave cure

  • Sandwich panel construct / bag / cure (perimeter dams or tapered core)

  • Film Adhesive and Paste Bonding

  • Core and laminate CNC trimming

  • Assembly drilling and hardware installation

  • Must be able to communicate concepts, ideas and procedural steps to others in a clear, concise and effective manner

  • MS Office savvy / experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Must have hands-on / mechanical aptitude / trade (e.g. Farming, Construction, Auto Repair, Machining, Woodworking, etc.)

  • Able to make informed decisions using available data

  • Able to effectively work independently as well as in a team

  • Willing to work unconventional shifts occasionally to complete assignments

  • Able to deal effectively with stress and conflict

  • Able to read and interpret engineering models / drawings

  • Must be attentive to detail

  • Able to follow procedures and document / report results using MS Office

  • Demonstrates a strong work ethic and demonstrated consistent attendance

  • Innate problem solving skills

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to individuals already accessed to Special Access Programs

  • Individuals actively pursuing a STEM degree

  • Functional experience with NX-12
