Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Clearfield, UT.
Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work in a composite aircraft and rocket motor fabrication environment.
Designing, assembling, installing, supporting, and continuing thedevelopment of composite manufacturing machines and systems.
Manages projects to technical, quality, budget and schedulerequirements.
Learning the details of currently implemented mechanical andpneumatic system hardware and becoming familiar with control hardware andsoftware for machines.
Supporting production in using the machines and integratingupgrades as needed.
Assisting maintenance personnel as needed when troubleshooting theequipment.
Participating in R&D efforts to improve system capabilitiesand bring new ideas into projects.
Strictly follows and adheres to departmental procedures andprotocols.
Works with vendors to ensure successful fabrication and assemblyof machines and systems.
Maintains documentation related to machine and systems design,fabrication and proofing.
Provides estimates for new equipment and systems.
Some travel to fabrication vendors and other Northrop Grummanfacilities required.
Preparing, through mentoring, for eventual leadershipopportunities.
Education and ExperienceRequirements:
BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Preference given to candidates withexperience in an aerospace manufacturing environment.
Ability to be trained and a willingness to work with others in ateam environment
Ability to complete tasks with minimal guidance and with a senseof urgency
Ability to create design concepts and evaluate feasibility fromproduct requirements
Knowledge of mechanical system design, stress analysis, dynamics,factors of safety, using empirical methods.FEA knowledge a plus
Design experience using 3D CAD systems, SolidWork, Inventor, CATIAV5, NX, etc. (preference will be given to CATIA v5 and NX)
Ability to read and create 2D drawings, Generate Bill of Materials(BOM's) and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Experience with project management including budget, schedule andtechnical
Experience with design, fabrication and installation of mechanicalsystems/machines for large structures, Rocket and/or aircraft composite partsand assemblies preferred
Experience with general metallic fabrication including welding,machining, and forming.
Proficient with mechanical concepts (i.e. free body diagrams,strengths of materials, material properties, vibrations, kinematics, fastenerdesign, pneumatics and hydraulics, etc.).
Good understanding of manufacturing processes (i.e. machining,casting, forging, sheet metal, weldments, injection molding, etc.)
Hands on mechanical experience such as work within a machine shop
