Northrop Grumman Amherst Systems is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in our Buffalo, NY campus.

The Engineering Technician provides technical support to manufacturing Assemblers and Engineers on a variety of technical tasks. He/she gathers and reviews technical data to make recommendations for engineering design changes and process improvements in the manufacturing assembly area. May coordinate on engineering documentation, reports and drawings. May assist with manufacturing engineering evaluation or analysis. Will serve as a resource to others in resolution of problems and issues; this includes providing direction to less experience team members and working with other department to solve technical issues. He/she may be called upon to represent the department in multifunctional tactical meetings.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Contribute to process documents including directives, assembly guides, flow charts, block diagrams, etc.

  • Assist with the development of manufacturing fixtures and perform fabrication or alteration of material in support of documented changes.

  • Train new and less experienced team members on technical assembly procedures and processes; and periodically review work for quality.

  • Provide direction to less experienced team members to maintain schedule and drive priority within immediate area of highbay assembly.

  • Support Leads and Managers in times of absence and/or high workloads when increased area oversight is required.

  • Support existing metrics and assist in creating new measures for evaluating performance within immediate area.

  • Assist in preparation of monthly business review material and content for reporting up and brief presentations during the manufacturing group level review.

  • Identify areas of improvement, and support the implementation and roll out of improvement initiatives.

  • Assist with management of manufacturing resources including tracking of equipment, calibration, and repairs.

  • Assist with conducting interviews for assemblers during periods of hiring.

  • Perform troubleshooting of electronic assemblies and subassemblies.

  • Diagnose non-conformances using schematics, wiring diagrams, source control drawings and other procedures and equipment and make recommendations for resolution.

  • Occasionally perform a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive production assembly operations on electronic and/or mechanical assemblies and subassemblies.

This is an hourly position. No travel is associated with this position.

BUFMSTR

Basic Qualifications :

  • Associate's degree (or similar 2 year Technical degree) in a related technical field plus 6 years of manufacturing/assembly experience, or 8 years of manufacturing/assembly experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Ability to understand dynamic priorities and adjust to them with minimal supervision.

  • Experience working with electronic assemblies and subassemblies.

  • Experience troubleshooting technical issues on assemblies and sub-assemblies.

  • Experience with fabrication tools and techniques.

  • Hands-on use of the drawings, wire lists, and parts lists.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced technical knowledge in manufacturing of electronic assemblies and highbay assemblies.

  • Ability to use MS Excel and PowerPoint for creating presentation and process documentation material.

  • Experience maintaining tools for tracking work progress and communicating status to other groups.

  • Ability to work overtime during spikes in work load.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to represent organization to other functional groups including program management.

  • Current or previous IPC J-Standard or IPC 610 certifications.
