Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.

Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems Division is currently seeking a Program Manager III for our Air Force Programs team to support the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent program in our Propulsion Systems Business Unit at our Promontory, UT campus.

Role Description & Responsibilities:

The EMD Execution Program Manager will be responsible for managing the development, manufacturing and test of 2 new medium-class SRM propulsion motors in support of the Northrop Grumman Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) prime contract, next phase proposal development, and program content growth. Position includes leadership of matrixed and multi-disciplined teams. Emphasis is on SRM development, team leadership, communication with internal and external organizations, and management of manufacturing operations at Propulsion Systems. This position includes interfacing with VSET (Value Stream Element Team) leads and has final accountability for safety, quality, schedule, cost and technical execution. This manager will also serve as chairman of the NG GBSD Systems Integration Team (SIT) and as OPCB Chairman for Promontory operations. The position is located primarily in Northern Utah at our Promontory campus as part of the NG GBSD Program Office leadership team. Travel to Clearfield and Bacchus plants will be required on an as-needed basis.

Job Duties:

Program Execution

Execute programs successfully by managing risk, safety, quality, schedule, technology and cost

Recognize and resolve issues impacting the program

Company-Customer Interface

Represent Propulsion Systems as a business unit and Northrop Grumman as a company

Service the customer (executing the program and resolving issues in accordance with business objectives, strategy, legal requirements, regulations, contract terms, and company policies)

Balance the interests of the customer, Propulsion Systems and employees

Program Team Management

Provide overall leadership and direction to the program SIT team (to include coaching team members, resolving conflict, reviewing performance, and initiating corrective actions, if necessary)

Lead a multi-discipline, multi-faceted team to successful performance

Direct the performance of program functions (such as contract, finance, and operations)

Possess the proven ability to provide verbal and written information clearly, succinctly, and persuasively

Set role and performance expectations, and provide ongoing feedback and performance appraisals

Develop the program plan to meet critical milestones

Manage master program plans and schedules (identifying and assessing risks, and initiating necessary corrective action)

Understand how to work with VSET leads to achieve program goals

Schedule Management

Develop the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) and critical milestones

Ensure that the programs/projects are on schedule to the program milestones

Understanding of the program IMS and how that interfaces with operations to meet critical milestones

Financial Performance

Manage budgets and update monthly performance review for the customer

Present performance to senior management and customers

Forecast financial performance

Manage VSET CAMs to meet program cost goals

Contract Structure & Pricing

Assist in contract negotiations, endorse final price and contract terms and help resolve contract issues

Technical Performance

Drive technical excellence (by setting program standards, working closely with technical team, balancing risk, and delivering performance)

Business Development

Execute successfully to develop Propulsion System's image of delivering on-time and on-cost

Leverage existing scope to win new content

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelors in technical degree like engineering, chemistry, physics, etc. (preferred) or Business

Ten (10) plus years' experience in leading organizations with multiple disciplines

Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams to achieve single objective

Successfully managed $5M+ in sales annually

Additional Information

Successful applicant must be a U.S. citizen and have a Secret security clearance, or ability to obtain one

Preferred Qualifications:

A thorough knowledge of solid rocket motor and stage design, development, and manufacture at our Promontory, UT campus

In-depth understanding of customer requirements, both technically and financially, to ensure customer needs are met

Relevant experience at various levels of responsibility

Masters Degree or PhD in Engineering, Finance or Business Administration is a plus

Successfully managed $10M - $50M in sales annually (preferred)
