Northrop Grumman Staff Engineer Systems in Bethpage, New York
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer-Lead Technical Engineer. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman's team in Bethpage, New York, working for a business unit focused on the design, development and sustainment of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) and the Unmanned Surface Vessels (USV).
The selected candidate will be responsible for all technical matters on the program and will be the key technical Point of Contact for the family of USVs. Responsibilities will include overall mission system technical design/development of the family of USVs as well as the technical expertise to support the ongoing production and development efforts of the LCS program. Responsibilities will include software/hardware/firmware development, modeling and simulation, candidate mission system analysis, and development of payload/sensor trade studies.
The Staff Systems Engineer will:
Own and manage the overall technical baseline of the assigned program(s)
Serve as the engineering team liaison to program management, customers, and functional management of the assigned programs
Drive disciplined engineering process application across the assigned program(s)
Manage risks and opportunities for all engineering scope
Be capable of supporting up to 25% travel to support program and technical meetings
Systems engineering content includes, but is not limited to:
System Analysis & Trade Studies
Modeling and Simulation
Specialty Engineering (e.g. E3)
System Integration & Test
Operation, Maintenance, and Sustainment
Reliability, Safety, and Risk Analyses
The individual will also oversee indirect investments with technical planning and execution oversight for IRAD and support of Business Development with technical briefings for the family of USVs, as required.
Strong communication and people leadership skills paired with Platform integration technical expertise are required for this position
Bachelors in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 14 or more years of experience with Bachelors, 12 years with Masters, 9 with PHD
Experience leading technical teams
Experience in systems development, integration, and test
Strong systems thinking mindset
Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external stakeholders
Active DoD Interim Secret clearance or higher
Masters in STEM, business, or management
Multi-domain expertise in integration (both hardware and electrical), communications network and mission analysis
Work experience and/or exposure to Supply Chain Management (Sub-contractors)
Work experience in one or more other engineering functional areas (Hardware, Avionics, Software, Firmware, Field Engineering, etc.
Experience with systems aboard US Navy ships, and working with NAVSEA.
