Northrop Grumman Principal Engineer EHS in Baltimore, Maryland
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking an EHS Engineerto join our Environmental, Health, Safety, and Fire Protection team at the BWI Manufacturing, Engineering and Testsite in Linthicum, Maryland. The selected applicant will be responsible for successfully implementing all occupational health related programs and supporting environmental, employeesafety and fire protectionprograms.
The facility, performs work forthe Department of Defenseand produces avariety of ground-based, aircraft and space systems products.
Key roles and responsibilities include:
Reviews and interprets existing and proposed environmental, health, and safety (EHS) regulations to determine applicability and impact for site.
Develops, implements, and maintains occupational health programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.
Conducts qualitative and quantitative hazard assessments to include exposure monitoring for physical and chemical agents.
Completes industrial and office ergonomic evaluations to reduce risk factors that cause musculoskeletal disorders.
Oversees the following occupational health programs: asbestos/lead abatement, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, hazard communication, ventilation, non-ionizing radiation (lasers and radiofrequency), and chemical hygiene plans.
Conducts audits and identifies actions necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
Partners with business leaders to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability in support of EHS programs.
Interfaces with regulatory representatives, senior management, the site EHSFP Committee, and the Emergency Response, and Crisis Management teams.
Additional roles and responsibilities may include:
Supports the site's environmental, safety, and fire protection programs.
Provides timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to the company and regulatory agencies.
Writes and updates EHS plans and procedures.
Applies for new permits and renewals.
Coordinates EHS training for employees and conducts instructor-led EHS training.
Basic Qualifications for a Principal EHS Engineer:
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental science, or a related field, and a minimum of five (5)+ years of experience in the practice of industrial hygiene; or a Master of Science (MS) in the same disciplines with three (3)+years of experience in the practice of industrial hygiene.
The candidate should be a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or must be willing to achieve the CIH certification within three years of accepting this position.
Complete understanding and wide application of the fundamental principles of industrial hygiene.
Experience in completing industrial hygiene assessments and sampling; assessing the health impact of physical and chemical agents; fundamental principles of RF radiation, laser operation and theory, and affects and control of radioactive sources.
Experience with managing various EHS compliance programs (with a specific emphasis on occupational health) based on the review and interpretation of EHS regulations.
Experience with overseeing third party consultants/contractors.
Ability to perform job duties with general direction and supervision and to provide technical solutions to complex problems based on sound industrial hygiene principles.
Excellent risk communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization are a must.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
Master of Science (MS) degree in an industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental science, or a related field, or currently enrolled in an MS degree program.
Certifications in environmental or safety related programs, for example CHMM or CSP.
Computer based skills specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point programs.
Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and Tableau.
Experience in interacting with a union labor workforce.
Experience with supporting EHS programs for semiconductor operations.
