Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS) is currently seeking a Structural Engineer 4 to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals in Azusa, CA!

Here at the Azusa site, your expertise will be utilized to support not only the design analysis of various structures but also the dynamic acceptance/qualification tests of them. This makes for a wonderful cradle-to-grave product design experience.

Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite, structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal stress analysis. Tools utilized may include PATRAN/NASTRAN & CREO and a variety of software applications. Candidate may be required to perform engineering duties not necessarily aligned with their skill set.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering

  • 9 years of combined experience in structural analysis,design and testing

  • Strong proficiency withPATRAN/NASTRAN/FEMAP, in selecting proper analysis tools for specific applications

  • Experience in hardware design loads analysis and test environments

  • Experience in creating/modify dynamic Finite Element Models from drawings or CAD models

  • Ability to use and/or apply technical principles, theories, and concepts

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree Mechanical, Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering

  • A working knowledge CAD applications (CREO)

  • 10+ years of work experience in the area of spacecraft bus or payload loads, structural dynamics analysis and launch environment

  • Advanced knowledge of detailed space-flight loads, transportation loads, fatigue spectra, flight and ground testing

  • Familiar with advanced composite laminate plate theory and failure analysis theory is desirable

  • Participation in multiple design and analysis cycles in spacecraft development programs

  • Ability to generate PDR and CDR analysis data package and present to NASA/Air Force customers

  • Current DOD Secret security clearance and SCI program access.
