Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS)' Engineering, Sciences & Technology (ES&T) organization seeks motivated, collaborative, people-oriented leaders to support the career development of software engineers and continuous improvement of processes and tools to meet the current and future needs of NGMS programs and technologies. These front line leaders' two primary areas of responsibility will encompass team leadership and management, and team technical performance. The positions are located specifically in the Annapolis Junction, MD area.
The ES&T software engineering discipline leaders will be responsible for actively supporting and participating in our staffing and retention process. That process includes but is not limited to sourcing, recruiting, onboarding, training and performance management. They will be employee advocates and set an example as an inclusive leader focused on engaging and mentoring engineers and taking an active role in their career development.
Team technical performance responsibilities include support and adherence to standard software engineering processes; the oversight of cost, schedule and technical quality for software system development; and, software performance on various types of development and maintenance contracts within this ES&T discipline and geographic area.
This position requires the leaders to communicate effectively both horizontally and vertically with NGMS program managers and leads; other ES&T discipline leaders; the ES&T business facing organization; and the successful candidates' assigned software engineering team. They will work closely with the directors and managers of other engineering disciplines inside and outside Eastern Region.
The successful candidates will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance. They will have track records as effective communicators and problem solvers who are able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. These ES&T software engineering leaders will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including active mentoring and coaching, are a must. These candidates will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, business and technical capabilities. They will have the ability to operate in a team environment and collaborate across NGMS business areas as required to accomplish team goals. The ideal candidates will also be able to champion change within the organization in order to achieve competitive advantage for the business.
Minimal local travel is expected.
Bachelor of Science in a relevant technical discipline and a minimum of 9 years' experience in software engineering;
Proven leadership skills as a people and technical leader, and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment;
Experience leading software development teams creating new capabilities or maintaining existing capabilities;
Proficiency in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation and monitoring;
Experience translating requirements into operationally deployed code;
Experience in all aspects of the engineering process, from requirements analysis through retirement, and a working familiarity with CMMI, ISO 9001, AS9100, and ISO 12207;
Effective communication and presentation skills;
Current, active TS/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI polygraph
Master of Science in a relevant technical or management specialty;
Technical certification(s) such as CISSP, PMP, etc.;
Current, active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
